专家简介
Maria do Céu Lavado da Silva
Maria do Céu Lavado da Silva obtained her PhD degree in Agronomy/Plant Pathology (1996) at the Instituto Superior de Agronomia/University of Lisbon (ISA/UL) and since 1984 she is a researcher of Coffee Rusts Research Center (CIFC), a Unit of the former Tropical Research Institute of Portugal (IICT) and now of ISA/UL. Most of her research activities have been carried out in the area of plant - microbe interactions, with emphasis on the cellular events that condition coffee resistance and susceptibility to Hemileia vastatrix (leaf rust) and Colletotrichum kahawae (coffee berry disease). Collaboration has also been done in the study of other plant-pathogen interactions, such as coffee-Meloidogyne exigua, olive-Colletotrichum spp., cabbage - Hyaloperonospora brassicae, chestnut-Phytophthora cinnamomi.
She is engaged in the coordination of CIFC, since 2004. She has coordinated several projects funded by Portuguese Institutions and participated in three European Union projects in joint collaboration with other European Institutions (CIRAD, IRD) and Institutions of the coffee growing countries (CRF - Kenya, IRAD - Cameron, IAC – Brazil, CATIE - Costa Rica). She has also participated in bilateral collaborative projects between Portugal and Brazil, Colombia, East Timor, France, Germany, India, People’s Republic of China, Tanzania.
The current research interests are focused in two main areas: 1. Identification of key mechanisms of coffee resistance to H. vastatrix and C. kahawae, through a cytological, proteomic, metabolomic and transcriptomic approach; 2. Cellular and molecular basis of H. vastatrix and C. kahawae pathogenicity. She is author of several chapters of Books and papers published by renowned International Scientific Journals.
She is member of “Ordem dos Engenheiros” and of the Portuguese Society of Plant Pathology. She started the collaboration with the Association for the Science and Information on Coffee (ASIC) in 2010, as member of the scientific committee, and she is now member of its Board.
